Connecticut Flower & Garden Show Runs Through Sunday
The 29th annual Connecticut Flower & Garden Show runs through February 21, 2010 at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut. You’ll find inspiration in abundance at this expansive gardening show, which features 25 display gardens, prize-winning horticultural contest entries and vendors selling everything from garden tools and accents to jewelry, crafts and food products.
I had the opportunity to tour the Connecticut Flower & Garden Show yesterday, and my photos will provide you with a preview of one of New England’s largest flower shows.

A Girls’ Escape to the Quiet Cape
Winter is the perfect, quiet season for a girls’ escape to Cape Cod. A change of scenery, a bit of pampering, satisfying and comforting foods, music and laughter are amazingly restorative, and my friend, Jessica, and I found them all at the Dan’l Webster Inn.

8 Things I Learned at SkiVermont Media Day
Wondering what’s new, interesting and exciting at Vermont ski resorts? Here are a few tidbits I picked up during last week’s SkiVermont Media Day at Mount Snow:
- Stowe is the first and only mountain resort in North America to be designated a Sustainable Community by Audubon International.
- The Stash at Killington is one of only five natural terrain parks in the world. The only other U.S. resort with a natural terrain park is Northstar at Tahoe in Lake Tahoe, California.
- Three skiers who will compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver are Stratton Mountain School graduates: Lindsey Jacobellis, Andy Newell and Louie Vito.
- Kids and adults who participate in ski and snowboard camps at Smugglers’ Notch are being outfitted with Flaik GPS units that allow them to track their speed, distance and other statistics at the end of each day.
- Jay Peak plans to unveil its new ice arena during the summer of 2010.
- Mount Snow has more fan guns (251) for snowmaking than any other ski resort in North America.
- Stowe receives more than 333 inches of natural snow annually.
- The 500-foot superpipe at Stratton Mountain is the longest in Vermont. The 2010 Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships will be held at Stratton March 15-22.
