Enjoy A Break In Lanzarote
Fed up with the cold weather and grey skies of winter? Salvation is just a four hour flight away – as the Canary Islands – the Spanish owned archipelago located off the coast of West Africa – basks in warm sunshine all year round. And are cheaper then ever to reach this year thanks to the introduction of low cost flight services.
This great climate helps to explain why the Canaries are such a popular holiday destination. As unlike the rest of Spain it is possible to enjoy holidays here all year round.
Of the seven islands Lanzarote is regarded as one of the most unspoiled options. Boasting surreal volcanic scenery created by eruptions in the 18th century, great beaches and a whole host of things to do and see.
Travel to Lanzarote
Getting to Lanzarote is very straightforward from the UK as the island is very popular with British tourists. As a result flights to Lanzarote are available from all major UK airports – with prices starting from as little as £9.99 return with Ryanair this winter.
The flight time is four hours and on arrival visitors should note that there is no shuttle bus service between the main resorts and the airport. Car hire in Lanzarote however is very affordable and there are a number of companies located in the airport arrivals hall.
Places To Stay
Visitors really can take their pick as there’s everything from small apartments through to luxury villas in Lanzarote. Along with over 200 hotels and a growing band of rural retreats.
During the winter month’s visitors are best advised to head fro the more sheltered and southerly resorts of Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca in order to ensure that they enjoy the best of the weather the island has to offer.
Things To Do & See
Anyone spending rime on the island should make sure they take in the volcanic region, known locally as the Fire Mountains. As the scenery here is something else – and looks much like the surface of another planet altogether.
Beach lovers can explore some superb stretches of sand – such as Papagayo in the south and Famara in the north. Which rank up there with the best beaches in Spain.
Whilst history lovers will adore exploring Teguise – the former island capital which is still home to a host of old buildings and quiet cobbled streets.
Keeping pets sane during the holidays
Even though more than 90 percent of families consider their pets to be important members of their pack, animals can easily get lost in the hectic holiday shuffle.

‘I could argue you’re taking him for granted’
A reader writes: “I still have an emotional need to hear those three little words … I’m not sure how to deal with the fact that not hearing it is making me increasingly insecure about the relationship.”
‘Start digging into the mechanics of the game’
A reader writes: “Any advice for a girly girl who, 36 years into swearing off sports forever, finds herself the mom of two boys who can’t get enough of them?”
